Ozarks Outdoors - Outdoor Hygiene Clinic

Wonder why Dr. Strain had a shovel and Jaime Hedges was laughing hysterically on the mall earlier today?

Just outside the Student Center, Ozarks Outdoors put on a clinic about disposing of human waste in the wilderness properly. Dr. Strain, Jaime Hedges and freshman Montanna Hall explained what it was all about. Here’s the gist of it.

      1)       Make sure that you’re 200 feet away from a water source or campground.
      2)       Dig a hole about a hand’s depth and width.
      3)      Take care of business.
      4)      Double bag your toilet paper.
      5)      Wash your hands with biodegradable soap.
      6)      Sanitize your hands.

Dr. Strain even demonstrated his favorite technique – the bottomless bucket.

And remember, if all else fails, lime can help break down the matter and kill the smell.
